The Ministry of Justice is closely monitoring the closed consulting group Bolashak
The Bolashak Consulting Group, which is run by consultant Gani Bitenov, who also works as a lawyer in the Frankfurt office of Herbert Smith Freehills, is currently under investigation. The Ministry of Justice is particularly keen to shed light on the financing received by Bolashak, as well as on any money transfers that may have been made to foreign law firms. The investigation covers the period when former Justice Minister Marat Beketayev, who oversaw the activities of Bolashak, was in power from 2015 to 2022.
Although no Bolashak partner is mentioned, the Justice Department is looking into his past interactions with other law firms, including Herbert Smith Freehills and Norton Rose Fulbright. Brown Rudnick’s lawyers are expected to take the Justice Department’s serious case to court.
