There are new details of the detention of former Minister of Justice Marat Beketayev. On the morning of October 21, he tried to fly to Istanbul and further to London to avoid possible punishment, Orda.kz reports.

The ex-minister has long been under a travel respan, going through the investigation first as a witness and then as a suspect. The investigation was conducted in a closed information mode in order to avoid leaks. The investigation focuses on the trials of the Republic of Kazakhstan in international jurisdictions, conducted by the Beketayev-related company Bolashak Consulting Group, a key contractor of the Ministry of Justice. As well as the illegal withdrawal of assets abroad under the patronage of Karim Massimov.

On October 21, realizing that the results of the investigation are not in his favor, and it will not be possible to avoid the court, Beketayev arrived at the airport early in someone else’s car and in someone else’s jacket and tried to buy a ticket for the Astana-Istanbul-London flight right there. However, the escape attempt failed, and he was detained by law enforcement agencies.
